an equal and opposite pre-action

THE MOST CONSEQUENTIAL part of an action is the moment just before the action begins — the pre-action, if you will. From this moment, the pre-action, the rest of the action unfolds. In other words, a pre-action is the seed of an action.
Which is why it’s a good idea to pause at the beginning of an important action you’re about to undertake, to rest in its pre-action for a while, so that when you start, you start off on the right foot, in the right spirit. Like when you say grace before eating.
